End of Summer Fun: Special Days

Do you know about this great calendar of Special Days? National S'mores Day! Waffle Day! Smile Week! Send Summer off by celebrating a special day. It can be the on the actual day or you know what...you can make it up! Want Friday to be Double Scoop Ice Cream Day...now it is!

Let your kids choose one fun day each day this week and then help them plan it out. It can be an art day, a fun food day, or an outing. Keep it simple and keep it fun and keep it tied to celebrating the summer.

At my house, we'll be catching up on the missed and going to be missed summer activities like making a strawberry pie, swimming, and going to the zoo days.

Oh and this idea works anytime! Awesome huh?!

And aren't the knit ice cream cones in the photo so cute? Head over here to get your pattern!

Save on Summer Fun: National Parks

nps.org

if you are heading out to explore the great outdoors, take a minute to first check out www.nps.gov, the national park site. here you can find local parks to visit and search for ones in any area that you might be traveling to. a lot of parks across our vast country charge a pretty penny to step in, so while you are at nps.gov you can purchase a yearly pass for $80, that will get your whole family in to every park. that's a big savings if you plan on hitting more than a couple of our beautiful spots, and it's good for a whole year. think of all the green you can save and then go and see acres and acres of lush, protected green...alright, some of it is lush, protected brown, but you can still go and see it!

Random Tips From Your Kindness

Our very resourceful Mom sent us a giant list of free or nearly free summer activities. Many of these I remember doing during the summers of my youth- after my chores were done of course!
  • Take a walk in a new part of your town
  • Have a stay at home picnic with friends
  • Go camping in your backyard (the grass eventually grows back, right Mom!)
  • Take a ride on your local bus (our Mom made us a bus scavenger hunt once..so much fun!)
  • Watch airplanes take off and land at a close airport
  • Head over to those free summer concerts.
  • Dairy Queen!!
Thanks Mom for the super ideas! And since we're mentioning our Mom today...her Etsy site, peachylemonjewelry, is fully stocked with beautiful jewelry; including baby and children's bracelets. And if you would like something special (without special order pricing might I add) just send her a note and she can make it!
