Books for moms-by Guest Tip Mom Sarah

At the end of the day (or during the day if there is ever a spare moment) I thoroughly enjoy curling up with a good book. Turning the pages of an excellent book and wandering into a new realm is relaxing and calming. As mothers it is important for us to periodically enjoy “me” time. Reading is not only my guilty pleasure but a time for me to mentally get away from it all. I am going to share with you some of my favorite reads and ones that I hope you too might enjoy:

Seabiscuit: an American legend by Laura Hillenbrand-I have never connected more with a horse then I did after reading this book. This is the true story of a race horse that was famous during the 30's and 40's.

Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury-This is the perfect summer read. I have always enjoyed Bradbury novels and particularly love this lyrical and enchanting story of a young boy who discovers the joys of summer.

The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields -This Pulitzer Prize winning novel is a tale of a woman who looks back on her life as it nears its end. Her life is fraught with trials and tribulations and the story's interweaving plot keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen- I have aways been a Jane Austen fan. This is one of the most romantic love stories I have ever read. Delve into the world of Elizabeth, her sisters, Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy.

Clementine in the Kitchen by Samuel Chamberlain and Ruth Reichl -I love books that weave recipes into the story. This is the autobiographical tale of a French chef and the Chamberlain family that she works cooks for.

I'm a huge Bradbury fan. I also love "The Illustrated Man" and his recent sequel to "Dandelion Wine" which is "Farewell Summer."
